Toyota Avensis 2.0 05' and yes it's as boring to drive, as it is to look at.
Your girlfriend/boyfriends dad/mom is okay too!

Dodge Magnum RT. Note that my FIL is German (and living in Germany) and that the Magnum was never offered in Europe. He's been driving this plastic boat for many years now, I'd guess since about 2008. I like the engine but not much else.
Actual car not pictured. His is black and does have those wheels.

diesel? Awesome!
![]() 03/20/2015 at 11:52 |

He does in theory, own a real car then, based on all the materials. I would rather hoon 4500 diecast cars!
If you are American, go hoon a Camry, basically the same experience I suppose!

A 1996 Buick LeSabre. I'm just glad I don't have to drive it

My girlfriend's dad (close enough right?) has a black-on-black '97 BMW 328i w/ Sport Package, which I adore.

A rare sight from where I live, but the Germans do tend to have a lot of American cars, compared to other EU countries... Probably because of all the soldiers stationed I guees. Could we trade? PLEASE.
![]() 03/20/2015 at 11:57 |

Mine alternates between a 2001 (?) F350 with dual rear wheels and PowerStroke Diesel, and a beat-up and rusty '85 VW Vanagon that he's had since almost-new. Neither of which are really typical cars for your average high-level executive, but he totally owns it.
I can't find a photo of the Vanagon, but here's a shot of me in the truck. It's undeniably useful, but I still can't quite get comfortable driving it.

I'll hoon anything!!!!!
![]() 03/20/2015 at 11:57 |

It depends on what you'd like to trade. The Avensis won't do.
![]() 03/20/2015 at 11:58 |

Ofcourse, that's why it's in citations :) That is really cool! Hope you have gained his trust, and taken it for a drive.

An unregistered first gen Mazda 3 that he's wrecked so many times it's unrecognizable. He also has a 90-something Chevy 1500 but he tried to dilute the fuel with water to make it go further so it's currently out of commission.
![]() 03/20/2015 at 11:58 |

sounds pretty jalop actually :] Loud diesel and slow? Gimmie gimmie!!!
![]() 03/20/2015 at 11:58 |

unfortunately he's one of those luxury truck lease guys right now, he drives a 2014 ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 with all the options
![]() 03/20/2015 at 11:59 |
|
Oh the in-laws. Apparently they used to be super-Jalop, then I don't know what happened. My FIL had a 68 Corvette with a 327, restored an MG-A, and he and my MIL both had Saab turbos. When I met my wife he had an Audi TT Quattro with the 1.8L and a 6 speed stick. After almost buying a Mercedes SL550 to replace the Audi, he bought a Volt. He also has a Tahoe 4x4 for winter, and the MIL has been through a string of RX's.
![]() 03/20/2015 at 11:59 |

I have driven it, it's what spurred me to buy one actually. I one-up'd him though and bought a '98 M3!

Currently an F250 Super Duty with a contractor bed, but he has a 2013 Camaro SS convertible for the weekends. Before the Camaro, he had a 1969 Firebird convertible and a Triumph TR3 that he put together from pieces. Sold them both to help pay for the Camaro. He has also had a 1967 Firebird 400/4 speed and a 1979 Silver Anniversary Trans Am (403 Olds/automatic unfortunately). I think he also had a mid 70's TA when he was younger.

A diesel 2002 F-350 King Ranch, with a plow, his nicer work vehicle, he also has two full length Chevy work van for is carpet installation business. he bought it a few years ago with just 60,000 miles.
a 2002 Excursion to haul the family, also a diesel. When he bought it in 2003 his wife had just divorced him, and took the minivan, and left him with four kids. It currently has about 180,000 miles on it.
And his current DD that will soon be passed down to his youngest daughter a V6 AWD 2001 Passat.

I should have guessed from your name and picture, haha. Well, I could one-up mine, and buy a Avensis 2.2! But, I am not a big fan of falling asleep behind the wheel.

whooo! Awesome. I feel a rusty Karmann Ghia or old Datsun truck is waaay more jalop than a 2015 Audi RS6 for many many reason. Long live jalopies and the hoonigans that love'em!

not a father in law but my boss/mentor/father figure used to DD a Saleen S302 before he lost his license (long story, involves police helicopters and 160mph), he still owns it, just can't drive it lol.

Beige as beige gets, a beige '02 or '03 Avalon. He bought it for cash about a year ago, and much as I want to hate it, it's about as comfortable as vehicles get.
![]() 03/20/2015 at 12:11 |
|
Have you driven it then? Since it doens't get driven anymore, it would be the best excuse to take it for a drive.
![]() 03/20/2015 at 12:12 |

Don't have a pic but remove the markings and spotlight, add some magnetic antennas to the trunk and you'll get close. Steel wheels, dark grill. Can't recall off-hand how the headlights look...but it doesn't seem right below.
![]() 03/20/2015 at 12:12 |

I like that Avalon, no idea why, but I would gladly trade it for a European camry.

My in laws are also VW fans. When I married my wife her step mom had a 2007 Jetta 2.5 Wolfsenburg Ed. It was a 5 speed and it was this really nice sliver blue color, with the two tone black/tan leather interior. I loved, it. They traded that in for a 2006 Golf TDI, because the step mom doesn't like driving stick. My brother in law also had an 83 Rabbit diesel for his first car, and then sold that and got a 2002 Jetta TDI, that he is slowly making more interesting. It's currently putting out about 160hp, crazy amounts of torque for such a small car.
They got me thinking my wife's next car will probably be a VW, I'm hoping for a MK5 GTI.

FIL drives a 2000 Altima GLE
It's a crapcan. MIL's 2006 Altima 2.5SE is much nicer.

A 2002 Ford F150 crew cab, and a beater '89 Nissan hardbody truck that he just hand painted blue & gold.

why that sofa on wheels is probably an an absolute peach to drive. Just not any fun. If I have that and say a Miata I'd be happy.

For sure, he was actually who introduced me to Jalopnik/Oppo. This is his second Miata since I've known him, he sold his first for a Mini but now he's back. He runs/ran them all in the local SCCA autox circuit as well.
![]() 03/20/2015 at 12:30 |

His looks very similar to this except no two-tone and stock wheels/tires

It rides like a cloud, you don't feel anything. A cocoon on wheels. It's doesn't corner very well, turn to sharply and you could end up in the passenger seat. But my car isn't much better in the handling department...
I drive this, a 1985 Buick Riviera.
